Activities

We are interested in pursuing any viable project concerning brook trout conservation in WV. There are multiple grant sources identified as potential sources for funding. BTB can assist with those applications or direction towards that. If you have an idea for a project, pass it to us. We work in conjunction with the WV Department of Natural Resources, US Forest Service, West Virginia University and individual TU Chapters to determine priorities, efficacy and legality. BTB intends to light the flame for these projects and allow individual TU Chapters to carry the torch.

Specific brook trout related activities will be listed here and on the front page:

HRI: Potomac Headwaters Tree Planting, Thorn Creek

Potential future projects in the works include:

  • Livestock fencing on Old Field Fork of Elk (in conjunction with USFS)
  • Joint project between Meade Westvaco/KVCTU to do habitat projects and liming in the Big Laurel of Cherry River watershed
  • Joint projects in Williams River watershed with USFS on Black Mountain Run, Little Laurel and other streams including tree planting.
  • Joint project with USFS/BCTU on Meadow Creek of Anthony Creek in Greenbrier County. Prisoners have been used to clear brush from old FS road and BCTU has donated funds to gravel the road for access of dump trucks hauling limestone fines.
  • KVCTU has donated an additional $1000/year to WVDNR for the liming of Barranshe Run of Cranberry River.
  • KVCTU is currently working with Chesepeake Energy concerning potential projects within their working region on brook trout streams.
