Mission of WV Back The Brookie

To determine and increase awareness of problems facing the brook trout and work towards fixing those problems. WV Back The Brookie operates as a committee and idea under the umbrella of WV Council of Trout Unlimited and does not adopt policy or operate in any way outside of that jurisdiction. It is a program created to provide greater focus for our native trout and provide education and advocacy for that trout.

Our focus is to grow the knowledge and focus within TU concerning the most critical components affecting brook trout and to disseminate that to the public (i.e., riparian and in-stream habitat issues, non-native trout introductions, acidification). Also, using hands on activities such as tree plantings illustrates to the volunteer the importance of riparian zones and canopy and serves to directly affect the watershed.

The current Back The Brookie leadership committee consists of these volunteers:

Chris Shockey - Chair

Philip Smith

Lee Orr
