One Percent For Rivers

1% For Rivers is a coalition marketing program that connects businesses and consumers with a shared interest in protecting West Virginia’s rivers. Participating businesses donate one percent of their sales to West Virginia Trout Unlimited in exchange for a variety of co-marketing opportunities under the 1% For Rivers brand. Research shows that this type of philanthropy is often enough to influence consumer purchase behavior in favor of participating businesses. This program was originally developed by our sister organization Colorado Council of Trout Unlimited and they have helped to grow businesses such as the Upslope Brewing Company through this exciting program. There are other examples such as Bayern Brewery's partnership with Montana Trout Unlimited that have tested this model and found it to be a win/win for everyone involved.

We are open to discussing partnerships with breweries, wineries, artists, outfitters, guide services, inn-keepers, restaurants or any business that has an interest in cold, clean, fishable water for generations to come.

Consider a charitable gift for the resource that you've grown to love

We are passionate about the mission of conservation for our West Virginia Trout. So much so, that we are made up almost entirely of unpaid volunteers who spend our weekends and free time working for the resource, not just taking from the resource. Volunteers are what makes this organization great, but money is the oxygen that we have to breath to make things actually happen. Without funding, we are just a group of guys who sit around and tell fishing tales.
